Before joining the entertainment industry, Sy Kravitz, born Seymour Kravitz, served in the United States army. He joined the force after completing his university education and spent most of his youthful years as a military officer.
As a producer, he was best known for his time with the National Broadcasting Company where he produced most of their news programs.
Family
His parents were called Joseph Kravitz and Jean Kaufman. He lost his brother Leonard Harold Kravitz during the infamous Korean War. He married movie actress Roxie Roker with whom he had Leonard Albert Kravitz who would later become an international singer.

Throughout the Vietnam War, he worked as a newspaper reporter.
