About Sydney Pollack
Sydney Pollack abandoned his initial plan to go to medical school in favor of acting training in the early 1950s. In the late 1950s, he began an acting career but he got convinced by actor and producer to consider being a director.
His most successful films as a director and producer include “Out of Africa”, “Tootsie” and “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?”. On television, he is remembered best for his portrayal of George Truman in “Will & Grace”.
Family Life
At a young age, his father, David Pollack divorced his mother, Rebecca Miller who battled with alcoholism problems.
He had a brother named Bernie who worked as an actor, costume designer and producer. From 1958 until he died, he was married to Claire Bradley, the mother of his three children.
Achievements
He received two Academy Awards, one Golden Globe and one Primetime Emmy Award.
Death
He died of cancer on 26 May 2008.
