Sylvia Likens was a 16-year-old girl from Indiana who was tortured and brutally murdered by a woman named Gertrude Baniszewski, along with her two underage children and two neighborhood youths. Sylvia's brutal murder was described as "the most terrible crime ever committed in the state of Indiana".

She was the daughter of Lester Cecil Likens and Elizabeth Frances. She had four siblings: Diana, Jenny, Danny and Benny.
Trivia
She died on October 26, 1965 of brain hemorrhage, shock and malnutrition from being severely beaten, burnt and starved.
Baniszewski and the four minors responsible for torturing and murdering Sylvia were tried and found guilty and received sentences ranging from life imprisonments to several years in prison.
