Tammy Faye Bakker came to prominence in the 1970s as the spouse of disgraced televangelist Jim Bakker. She worked alongside her then-husband Bakker as an evangelist, singer, television personality and talk show host.
How did Tammy Faye Bakker become famous?
Her first claim to fame was as a co-host of the Christian televangelism show. “The PTL Club” during which she also performed as a gospel singer.
She was involved in controversy following the imprisonment of Bakker in 1989 and her subsequent divorce from him. She also published two autobiographies; “Tammy: Telling It My Way” and “I Will Survive… and You Will Too!”
Family Life
Her preacher parents, Carl LaValley and Rachel Minnie Fairchild divorced not too long after her birth. Fairchild later remarried and she went on to have seven siblings.
Her marriage to Bakker lasted for 31 years and produced two children. She married building contractor Roe Messner in 1993.
