Tammy Wynette was a singer-songwriter who became known for her country music genre of songs. Through her focus on themes such as divorce, loneliness and relationship and life struggles, she churned out hit songs which made her one of the biggest-selling female singers.
She has been credited for having inspired women to do country music in the 1970s. Her well-known singles include “Stand by Your Man”, “You and Me” and “Take Me to Your World”.

She was born Virginia Wynette Pugh to Mildred and William Pugh as their only child. Her first marriage to Euple Byrd produced three daughters. She was married four more times after that.
Her ex-husbands included record producer George Richey and musician George Jones, the father of her fourth daughter.

She is an inductee of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Grammy Awards Hall of Fame.
