Background
Aso is the grandson of Yoshida Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan from 1948 to 1954. Nobuko, Aso’s sister, got married to Prince Kanin, the grandson of Emperor Taisho.
Marriage
In 1983, he tied the knot with Chikako Suzuki, daughter of former Prime Minister, Suzuki Zenko. They had 2 children.
Education
He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from the Gakushuin University in 1963 and later studied at Stanford University and the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Political Career
Before serving as Secretary–General of the Liberal Democratic Party, he was the Foreign Minister in Shinzo Abe’s first cabinet in October 2005.
Controversy
During a speech in Otaru City, the legislator made a remark about Japanese rice being “tastier” due to global warming. This sparked criticisms across Japanese social media networks.
