About Ted Simmons
The Michigan-born Major League Baseball (MLB) player recorded a batting average of .285 and 2,472 hits during his twenty-year playing career. He played with the St. Louis Cardinals, the Milwaukee Brewers and the Atlanta Braves. He later became the general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1992 and the bench coach for Milwaukee Brewers during the 2008 season.

He studied at Southfield High School in Southfield.
Career
Simmons first Major League Baseball appearance was for the St. Louis Cardinals on September 21, 1968. He went on to win the National League Most Valuable Player Award in 1971. He played with the Cardinals until 1980 and later signed with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1981. The sportsman spent four seasons with the Brewers before moving on to the Atlanta Braves. He featured for the Braves from 1986-1988.
Achievements
The baseball player became a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2020. He was also inducted into the Milwaukee Brewers Wall of Honor and the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame.
Simmons was also the recipient of the Silver Slugger Award in 1980.
He made the All-Star list a whopping eight times.
In honor of his contributions to the team, his number 23 jersey was retired by the St. Louis Cardinals.
