About Teemu Selänne
Teemu Selänne, also known by the nickname "The Finnish Flash", is a former Finnish professional ice hockey player who began his impressive career in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Calgary Flames during the 1992–93 NHL season. By the time he retired from the NHL in 2014, he had played for the Anaheim Ducks, the Colorado Avalanche and the San Jose Sharks. He is regarded as one of the finest Finnish players the NHL has ever known. He also had an impressive career with the Finland men's national ice hockey team, with whom he helped win numerous Olympic medals. He is considered a national hero in his home country.
Family Life
He is the son of Liisa Viitanen and Ilmari Selänne. He has two brothers, including a twin brother named Paavo. He married Sirpa Vuorinen in 1996 and fathered four children with her.
Trivia
Before becoming a professional ice hockey player, he worked as a kindergarten teacher for three years.
He is the subject of the popular 2013 Finnish biographical documentary film Selänne.
