About Terry Fox
Terry Fox was a renowned Canadian athlete, cancer activist and humanitarian best remembered for his Marathon of Hope, which saw him attempt to run across Canada on an artificial leg in order to raise awareness and money for cancer, a disease he himself was suffering from. He died of the disease at the age of 22 before completing his quest. He is regarded as one of Canada’s greatest heroes of all time.
Family Life
He was the son of Betty Fox and Roland Fox. He grew up with three siblings.
Achievements
In addition to becoming the youngest ever Companion of the Order of Canada in 1980, he also won other prestigious awards and honors, including the Lou Marsh Award.
Trivia
With his Marathon of Hope, he hoped to raise $1 from each of the 24 million people living in Canada.
He covered a distance of 5,373 kilometers in 143 days on his prosthetic leg during his legendary Marathon of Hope.
