He was recognized as one of the renowned animators who produced and directed animated films during the golden age of American animation. He has worked with Warner Bros. Cartoons, Inc., and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio.
Avery was known for his unique directional style, technical innovation, and the kind of humor he employed in his animations. He was credited with the evolution and creation of popular animated characters like Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Screwy Squirrel, George and Junior, Droopy, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig. The animated films Avery directed include “Gold Diggers of '49”, “I Only Have Eyes for You”, “The Penguin Parade”, and “A Gander at Mother Goose”
