Theodosius I Rank
About Theodosius I
Theodosius I served as Roman emperor from 379 to 395. Also referred to as Theodosius the Great, his reign was associated with the defeat of the Goths and the adoption of the Nicene Creed (creed of Nicaea) as the Christian orthodoxy.
As an adherent of consubstantiality, he is also known to have been an opponent of the Christological doctrine of Arianism and of paganism. After the Roman Empire was divided into the Western and Eastern parts for administration purposes, he defeated usurpers Eugenius and Magnus Maximus and became the final emperor to reign over the whole Roman Empire (394-395).
