About Thomas Cook
Thomas Cook left a legacy as a pacesetter in making tourism more accessible and affordable to the average middle class citizen through his tour packages. He is best remembered as the founder of Thomas Cook & Son, a travel agency that he established in 1841 when he organized a train excursion for 485 people. By the time he opened an office for his travel agency in 1865, it had already been a decade since he organized his first international trip for his customers. The agency also had a shop that sold travel accessories such as luggage, guide books and telescopes.
Family Life
His parents were Elizabeth and John Cook of Melbourne, Derbyshire. He had two children from his marriage to Marianne Mason in 1833. Their son, John Mason became his business partner in 1872. He lost his daughter, Annie Elizabeth in 1880.
