About Thomas Moore
Irish poet, writer and lyricist Thomas Moore is remembered best for his work, “Irish Melodies”. It contained more than 100 English-language poems and lyrics that were set to Irish music. Notable poems in his “Irish Melodies” include “The Last Rose of Summer” and “The Minstrel Boy”. A trained lawyer, he first achieved success as a writer/poet when he translated the works of Greek lyric poet Anacreon, who gained notoriety for his erotic poems and drinking songs. Sadly, he is also remembered for having indirectly caused the loss of English poet Lord Byron’s memoirs.
