About Thomas Sowell
Thomas Sowell is a renowned American economist, author, political philosopher and social theorist whose notable books include 1975's Race and Economics and 2003's Applied Economics: Thinking Beyond Stage One. He is also a renowned economics instructor, who has taught economics at several academic institutions, including UCLA, Amherst College and Rutgers University.
Among the numerous awards he has received over the course of his career include the Francis Boyer Award in 1990 and the Bradley Prize in 2003. In 2002, he received the prestigious National Humanities Medal from President George W. Bush.
He supports the decriminalization of hard drugs.
In 2016, he endorsed the Republican candidate Ted Cruz for president.
Because of financial problems, he was forced to drop out of high school and join the military during the Korean War. After being discharged, he furthered his education through night school and eventually got admission into Harvard University, where he got his degree in economics.
