About Timo Boll
Timo Boll is one of Germany’s best table tennis players, reaching the No. 1 world ranking in 2003, 2011, and 2018. In July 2021, he was ranked 10th on the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). He joined Borussia Düsseldorf in 2006, extending his contract until 2022.
Early Years
Boll started playing table tennis when he was four years old under his father’s coaching. After he was discovered by a trainer four years later, he began his table tennis career at a training center before moving to FTG Frankfurt and later to TTV Gönnern.
Career
He made his first international win when he competed in the Table Tennis European Youth Championships in 1995, winning three gold medals. In the latter years, he also won several singles and doubles titles.
In 2002, he was the first German table tennis player to win the Europe Top 12 Tournament. His victory made him the best German player at that time. After sustaining an injury around 2005-2006, Boll made his comeback in 2007, winning both singles and doubles titles in the European Championship.
Awards & Titles
Boll has won over 10 awards and titles during his career, including the 2017 ITTF Male Table Tennis Star, 2010 German Sports Personality of the Year (2nd position), and the 1998 German Table Tennis Player of the Year.
