About Tite Kubo
Named Noriaki Kubo at birth, he is popularly called Tito Kubo and is a famous Japanese comic (manga) artist. Kubo is best known for his fantastic character designs and his works on his series “Bleach.”
Background & Early Works
He was born in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. His desire to become a professional manga artist during his elementary school years was greatly influenced when he read the “Saint Seiya” manga.
In 1999, Kubo’s first manga, “Zombiepowder,” was published in a “Weekly Shōnen Jump” magazine. The manga ran 27 chapters until it was canceled in 2000.
Major Works
His most famous manga series is “Bleach,” which had about 120 million copies distributed by 2018. “Bleach” is based on the story of a high school student who develops powers to become a “Shinigami” and consequently fights strong creatures called “Hollows.” It won the 2004 Shogakukan Manga Award and was aired by TV Tokyo from 2004 to 2012, showing over 366 episodes.
He designed characters for the Madhouse anime of “Hell Screen.” In 2008, “Burn the Witch,” his one-shot manga was published in the Weekly Shōnen Jump for their 50th-anniversary celebration. Kubo also provided character designs for the 2015 “Dragon Quest X” video game.
Trivia
He has cited renowned comic writers Akira Toriyama, Shigeru Mizuki, and Masami Kurumada as inspiration for his art.
