About Tom Ewell
Tom Ewell was an award-winning actor from the United States. During his career which lasted close to six decades, Ewell starred in many television, film and stage productions. He appeared in his first Broadway work in 1934, and six years later he earned his first film role.
He would be remembered for his performance in the 1952 play “The Seven Year Itch” in which he appeared as Richard Sherman. He played the same role in the film adaptation which was released three years later. Ewell starred as Bruce Hallerton in the 1956 comedy film “The Great American Pastime”. The famous actor was also cast in the TV series “Eischied”.
Family
His official name was Samuel Yewell Tompkins and was raised by his parents Samuel William Tompkins and Martine Yewell. Between 1946 and 1947, he was married to Judith Abbott. A year after their divorce, he tied the knot with Marjorie Sanborn with whom he fathered a son called Taylor.
Major Awards
He won the Clarence Derwent Award, the Golden Globe Award, and the Tony Award during his acting career. Ewell was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in 1977. He was selected into the Owensboro High School Hall of Fame.
