He was born to Vassiliki Papadimitriou and David Lee Thomas Bass. He is the older brother of drummer and actress Athena Lee. His first marriage was to Elaine Bergen. He married his second wife actress Heather Locklear in 1986. The pair got divorced in 1993. His third marriage was to actress Pamela Anderson, with whom he had two sons. The marriage lasted from 1995 to 1998.
