About Tony Allen
Anthony Allen is a former American basketball player who with his great talent and style in the field of play earned the nickname "Grindfather". He played for 14 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and was acclaimed one of the best defenders in the league throughout his career.
Background
Allen grew up in Chicago Illinois, United States with his mother Ella Allen and siblings Dominique, Ebony, and Ryan.
Allen went to Crane High School in Chicago, where he demonstrated his basketball skills and also started his career. The basketball maestro is also an alumni of Butler County Community College.
Career Highlights
Standing at an enviable height of 6.4 feet with a formidable weight, Allen played the small forward position together with shooting guard. He was noted for how he wittingly handled the ball and his excellent tactics. He was also an all-purpose defender who was often allotted to high-scoring swingmen, as he made sure they had difficulties in reaching the net.
In 2016, after the game with the Lakers, Kobe Bryant gave Allen an autographed pair of shoes that had inscribed on it "To Tony, the best defender I ever faced!"
Allen played as a college freshman in the year 2000 to 2001, where he attained an average point of 16.5, made away with 6.1 rebounds, and obtained 2.8 steals in 32 games.
Due to his amazing exploits he was announced Jayhawk West Freshman of the Year.
During his senior year between 2003 and 2004, Allen steered the Oklahoma State team into securing a whooping 16 points. He also led the Cowboys to the 2004 NCAA Final Four where he procured 13 points, gained 4 rebounds and bagged 4 assists. He was eventually crowned “Big 12 Player of the Year” and received a mention at All-America by the Associated Press.
Allen started his contract with the Boston Celtics during the first round of the 2004 NBA draft. He later agreed to a long term contract with the team on July 3, 2004.
Playing as a rookie in the 2004 to 2005 season, he reached 6.4 points, attained 2.9 rebounds and 0.99 steals in an average of 16.4 minutes in over 77 games.
Allen recorded 20 points in his first game as a professional player on January 22, 2005, in a game against the Atlanta Hawks. He also competed in the Rookie Challenge at the 2005 NBA All-Star Weekend, where he bagged a team-high, 17 points.
In 2010, Allen agreed to a three-year contract worth $9.7 million with the Memphis Grizzlies. However, Two weeks after signing the contract, Allen disclosed he felt shaded by Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, his fellow players.
Further into 2017, Allen signed a contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. In November 2017, he accomplished a season-high of 10 points in 19 minutes. The team sadly lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Career Lows
In December 2017, following a game against the Philadelphia 76ers, Allen painfully experienced a fractured left fibula. On January 15, when he was reportedly returning from injury he was shelved again for two to four weeks after experiencing complications during his recovery.
In February 2018, Allen was traded, together with Jameer Nelson, and Ömer Aşık, to the Chicago Bulls for Nikola Mirotić. Allen was set aside by the Chicago Bulls for eight days before appearing in a game for them.
