About Tony Kornheiser
Tony Kornheiser has been described as one of the most talented American sport broadcasters of all-time. The New York-born journalist has had a successful career in both the print and electronic media. He started his profession in the 1970s as a writer for the Newsday newspaper.
In 1979, he was hired by The Washington Post where he initially worked as an assignment reporter. Five years later, he started contributing with his own columns.
As a broadcaster
Despite his success as a writer, Kornheiser has gained global recognition for his work as a radio and television host. In 1992, he started his most popular talk show titled “The Tony Kornheiser Show” which premiered on the WTEM network. The show has also been heard on other radio stations such as ESPN Radio, and XM Satellite Radio.
As a television presenter, he’s best known as one of the hosts of ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption”. He has also appeared on the network’s popular sports television show known as “Monday Night Football”.
Family
He’s the only son of Ira Kornheiser and Estelle Rosenthal. He has been married to a woman called Karril since 1983. Their children are Elizabeth and Michael.
Education
He graduated from George W. Hewlett High School before he started his education at Binghamton University (then known as Harpur College).
Awards
Kornheiser was selected into the prestigious National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
Trivia
Talkers Magazine named him in their list of “100 most important sports talk radio hosts in America”.
According to him, he always gets scared when he boards an aircraft.
He briefly appeared on the television series “The Americans”.
