Early Life
Son of a renowned radio announcer, Roberts attended High School of Music & Art in New York. He then proceeded to Northwestern University in Evanston, New York, where he majored in theater.
Career
Tony Roberts made his Broadway debut in 1962 in the play “Something About a Soldier”. He also worked with Neil Simon on a few Broadway plays. This New Yorker is best known for his work with filmmaker Woody Allen, having appeared in quite a number of Allen’s works, including “Annie Hall”, “Play It Again”, Sam, “Hannah and Her Sisters”, and “A Midsummer Night's Sex”. In “Annie Hall”, a 1977 romantic comedy-drama, Roberts in a cast that included Woody Allen himself, Diane Keaton, and Paul Simon.
Roberts has appeared in other films, including once starring alongside Al Pacino in the 1973 film “Serpico”. Other notable works of Roberts have come in “The Taking of Pelham One Two Three”, “The Longest Week”, and “Dirty Dancing”.
Roberts has been nominated multiple times for a Tony Award although has not won any major award, as of 2021.
