Background
He was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and relocated to Indiana with his family when he was seven years old. In the summer of 2012, two years after making his Indiana commitment as a first-year student at Arsenal Tech, he revoked it. He won the 2014 Class 4A State Championship game, earning the coveted Mr. Indiana Basketball title.
While playing for the Kentucky Wildcats as a freshman, he was chosen to feature in the 2015 All-SEC Freshman Team. The Utah Jazz picked him with the 12th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. He was traded to the Denver Nuggets following a standout two-year run with the Jazz. Before joining the Sacramento Kings in 2022, he played for the San Antonio Spurs for two seasons and the Detroit Pistons for one.
