About Tyler James
Kenneth Gordon, a British R&B singer-songwriter better known as Tyler James, began his musical career on The Voice UK in 2012. The competition was a huge boost, as it helped launch his ascent to stardom.
Career
He joined Island Records in 2003 when they heard a demo tape of his single "Why Do I Do?" on the UK Singles Chart, the song peaked at #25, while its follow-up, "Foolish," peaked at #16. In 2005 he was dropped by the label after "Your Woman's" underwhelming chart performance.
He entered The Voice UK, was chosen by the mentor, musician will.i.am, and ultimately finished third overall. He re-signed with Island Records in July 2012, and his second album, "A Place I Go," which was produced and co-written with will.i.am, was released in October.
Tyler James and Amy Winehouse
He and the late English singer-songwriter were close friends. The two even toured together in 2004. His “The Unlikely Lad” album, which was released in 2005, featured three songs that were co-written with Winehouse. His memoir “My Amy: The Life We Shared” was released in 2021. The work sheds light on his relationship with Amy Winehouse, whom he first met when he was just 13.
