About Unai Emery
Unai Emery Etxegoien, is a professional Spanish football coach as well as a retired football player. In the year 2018, he was named as the head coach for premier league football giants – Arsenal. However, in 2019 he was sacked as a result of the poor performances of the team and was replaced by his Spanish compatriot, Mikel Arteta.
Before Emery joined Arsenal he coached several Spanish teams such as Lorca Deportiva, Valencia, Sevilla and Almería. He also coached Russian football club Spartak Moscow and French football giants, Paris Saint-Germain.
Family
His father was also a professional football player named Juan María Emery Alza. His paternal grandfather was also a football player called Antonio.
Achievements
He was named the ‘European Coach of the Season’ for the 2013/14 season. He was recognized as the ‘La Liga Manager of the Month’ for March of the year 2014 and also for January in 2015. He was also named ‘UNFP Manager of the Year’ for 2017/18.
