About Van Johnson
For close to sixty years, Charles Van Dell Johnson shone brightly in the entertainment industry as a film and television actor, singer, radio personality, Broadway performer and dancer. Prior to his debut on Broadway in the mid-1930s, he had performed as a substitute dancer with a touring theatre troupe.
He hit his peak in Hollywood in the 1940s and 1950s, becoming a household name through roles in films such as “A Guy Named Joe”, “The Human Comedy” and “Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo”.
Family Life
He was the son of plumber-turned real estate salesman Charles E. Johnson and his alcoholic runaway wife, Loretta Snyder. He had one daughter, Schuyler and two stepsons through his marriage to stage actress Eve Abbott. They got divorced in 1968.
Achievements
He earned a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
