About Van Jones
After working with the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights for some time, Van Jones co-founded the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights in 1996. The celebrated American lawyer and political commentator teamed up with James Rucker to establish the civil rights organization known as ‘Color of Change’.
He gained national fame in 2009 when then President of the United States Barack Obama appointed him as the Special Advisor for his Green Jobs project.
Other works
Jones’ numerous appearances on the CNN channel made him one of the most popular personalities in the United States. Some of the network’s shows that he appeared on are “The Messy Truth” and “Crossfire”. In 2008, he published a book titled “The Green Collar Economy”. He has also worked with Meek Mill and Jay-Z’s REFORM Alliance.
Family
He was raised by his parents Willie Anthony Jones and Loretta Jean Kirkendoll alongside a twin sister called Angela. Until 2019, he married Jana Carter with whom he had two kids Mattai and Cabral.
Education
After Jackson Central-Merry High School, Jones attended the University of Tennessee at Martin. He later joined Yale Law School.
Awards
He had received many awards including the Reebok International Human Rights Award, NAACP President's Award, and the Emmy Award.
Trivia
He worked with musician Prince as his advisor.
In 2017, he published a book titled “Beyond the Messy Truth: How We Came Apart, How We Come Together”.
