About Victor Hugo
Victor Hugo was French poet, novelist and dramatist widely considered the most prominent of the French Romantic writers as well as one of the greatest French writers of all time. Some of his best known works include Hernani, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, Les Contemplations and Les Misérables. Aside from writing, he was also an artist who produced over 4,000 drawings during his lifetime.
Family Life
He was the third son of his parents, Joseph Léopold Sigisbert Hugo and Sophie Trébuchet. He was married to Adèle Foucher, from 1822 until her death in 1868. The marriage produced five children, including Léopoldine, François-Victor and Adèle Hugo.
Trivia
During his lifetime, he was a staunch advocate of the abolishment of capital punishment.
