About Vikram Seth
Vikram Seth is a multiple award-winning Indian poet and writer who’s known for his 1991 poem collection entitled “Beastly Tales”. His first poetry book “Mappings” was published in 1980. By the end of 2015, he had published three novels and eight poetry books. He launched his first novel in 1986 which was entitled “The Golden Gate”.
Family
He’s the son of Indian attorney Leila Seth and her husband Prem Nath Seth. He spent his childhood with his two siblings Aradhana and Shantum.
Education
He had his early education at The Doon School and continued at Corpus Christi College, Oxford where he studied Economics, Philosophy, and Politics. He further attended Stanford University for his Ph.D program.
Decorations
He has been honored with many accolades including Padma Shri, Sahitya Akademi Award, and the Commonwealth Poetry Prize. In 2001, he became a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
Trivia
He purchased and renovated a house which was previously owned by George Herbert, a renowned British poet.
