Virgil (Publius Vergilius Maro) was a Roman poet of the Augustan period.

Works: "Bucolics", "The Georgics", "Aeneid", "Appendix Vergiliana".
The "Aeneid" poem is regarded as the national epic of ancient Rome and he is considered one of Rome's greatest poets. He was a major influence on Dante and his poem "Divine Comedy".
His Personal Life
He traveled to Greece in 19 BC and he caught a fever while visiting a town near Megara. He died the same year. Lucius Varius Rufus and Plotius Tucca edited and published "Aeneid" against his wish.
