About Vivien Thomas
Vivien Thomas was a cardiac surgeon of American nationality. In 1940, he invented the technique for treating cyanotic heart disease. He started as a laboratory assistant. He worked at Vanderbilt University, and Johns Hopkins University, where he worked for thirty-seven years.
One interesting fact about Thomas is that he had no tertiary education but he taught several renowned surgeons through his laid down operative techniques. He was also the pioneer of cardiac surgery.

He was educated at Pearl High School.
Family
He was the child of William Maceo Thomas and Mary Eaton. In 1933, Thomas tied the knot with Clara Beatrice Flanders. He fathered two children named Theodasia Patricia and Olga Fay.
Death
In 1985, Thomas died as a result of pancreatic cancer.

He was awarded a Doctor of Laws by Johns Hopkins University in 1976.
