Early Life and Education
Percy was born to LeRoy Pratt Percy and Martha Susan Phinizy. The novelist enrolled at the Greenville High School and later attended the University of North Carolina, where he studied chemistry. He later received an M.D. from Columbia University in 1941.
Career
Percy found great success in the fictional novel, "The Moviegoer" and went on to create more masterpieces such as "The Last Gentleman" in 1966, "Lancelot" in 1977 and "The Second Coming" in 1980. Percy also delved into the world of nonfiction by publishing "Going Back to Georgia" in 1978, "The City of the Dead" in 1985 and "Novel-Writing in an Apocalyptic Time" in 1986.
Personal Life
Percy married Mary Bernice Townsend in 1946. The novelist died in 1990.
Awards
Percy was awarded the St. Louis Literary Award in 1985.
