About Wallace Stevens
Initially trained as a lawyer, Wallace Stevens spent the majority of his working life with an insurance group where he operated as one of their executives. During his time with the company, the American also worked as a poet which would later place him on the international stage.
Categorized under the modernism movement, Stevens published many successful poems with some titled "Anecdote of the Jar", "The Auroras of Autumn", and "The Idea of Order at Key West".
Family
He had two brothers who worked as lawyers. He was married to Elsie Viola Kachel between 1909 and 1955. They had a child called Holly Stevens.
Education
In 1900, he completed his education at Harvard University. He later studied at the New York Law School.
Awards
He was a recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1955. He also won many awards such as the National Book Award for Poetry, Bollingen Prize for Poetry, and the Frost Medal.
Trivia
He was engaged in a brawl with American novelist Ernest Hemingway.
He published his first poem at the age of 35.
