Early Life
Born in Menahga, Minnesota, he was drawn to art from a tender age. His earliest drawings of idols such as “Rot Crane” and “Will Eisner” expressed a great sense of imagination. He trained briefly at the Minneapolis School of Art.
Career
He started his comic career writing a Fox romance comic “My Confession” in 1948. His comic-arts debut was a long story he titled, “The Tip Off Woman” which appeared in Fox Comics Western “Women Outlaws.” From 1957, he created covers and interiors for over 60 issues of the sci-fi “Galaxy Science Fiction.” During comics' silver age, he penciled and inked Marvel’s “Daredevil” and some pages in “Dr. Doom.” He co-created the DC Comics series “Captain Action" in 1968.
Personal Life
He was married three times.
Awards
He was inducted into The Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 1992 and Inkwell Awards’ The Joe Sinnott Hall of Fame in 2011.
