Walter Scott was a renowned Scottish historical novelist, poet and playwright remembered for being the inventor of the historical novel genre. Some of his notable works include Roby Roy, The Fortunes of Nigel, The Lady of the Lake, Waverley and The Heart of Midlothian.
Family Life
He was born to Anne Rutherford and Walter Scott. He got married to a woman named Charlotte Charpentier (Carpenter) in 1792. The marriage produced four children and ended with Charlotte’s death in 1826.
Trivia
His 1814 novel Waverley is regarded as one of the most significant books to be published in the nineteenth-century.
As a child, he was left lame after suffering from polio.
