About Waqar Younis
Waqar Younis made his debut as a professional cricket player in 1987 as a member of the Multan cricket team. He also played for the United Bank Limited team before gaining international fame in 1990 when he signed for Surrey in England.
Regarded by many as one of the sport’s greatest bowlers, the Pakistani cricket star has also played for some well-known teams including Glamorgan, Lahore Blues, and Warwickshire.
International career
He played his first game for the Pakistani senior cricket team a day before his eighteenth birthday in 1989. With the team, he participated in a number of Test tournaments as well as the ODI. In 2000, he was named the captain of the team.
After retirement
In 2006, two years after his retirement, he was appointed by his country to serve as the bowling trainer of their national team. Four years later, Younis was named the head coach and was in charge of the team at the ICC World Twenty20 in 2010.
Ahead of the 2013 Indian Premier League season, Sunrisers Hyderabad appointed him as their bowling coach. He has also worked as a commentator.
Private Life
He has been married to Dr. Faryal Waqar Younis and their two children are named Maira and Azaan.
Education
Before starting his studies at Government College, Burewala, Younis attended Pakistan Islamia School, and Sadiq Public School.
Honors
In 2013, he was selected into the prestigious ICC Hall of Fame.
Trivia
He’s the youngest cricketer to captain Pakistan at a Test game as of the end of 2021.
