About Willard Van Orman Quine
Willard Van Orman Quine was a renowned American philosopher best known for developing the mathematical logic known as “New Foundations”. He, alongside Hilary Putnam, introduced the “Quine–Putnam indispensability argument” which is one of the widely used philosophies in mathematics.
His numerous books such as “Word and Object” and “The Roots of Reference” earned him lots of followers. He was also an educator and spent most of his time as an employee of Harvard University.
Family
He was the son of Harriett and Cloyd Robert and had a brother named Robert Cloyd. His marriage to Naomi Clayton ended in 1947. The following year, he became the husband of Marjorie Boynton. He was blessed with four children.
Education
This philosopher completed Oberlin College before enrolling at Harvard University.
Honors
In 1993, he received the Rolf Schock Prize in Logic and Philosophy. He was also honored with the Kyoto Prize three years later.
