About William Peter Blatty
William Peter Blatty was an award-winning American writer whose first novel titled “Which Way to Mecca, Jack?” was published in 1960. He was best known for his 1971 book “The Exorcist” which was adapted into a movie of similar name two years later. He went on to write many books including the horror novel “Legion” which he launched in 1983.
Other works
Aside from his numerous novels, Blatty was also a filmmaker. He wrote, directed and produced the 1980 film “The Ninth Configuration” which was based on his 1978 novel of the same title. Some popular films that he worked on were “The Great Bank Robbery” and “Promise Her Anything”.
Family
He was born to Peter Blatty and Mary Mouakad. He had seven children from his four marriages. He ended the union with his first wife Mary Margaret Rigard in 1963. He later married tennis player Linda Tuero, then Elizabeth Gilman before tying the knot with Julie Witbrodt in 1983.
Education
Before attending Georgetown University, he studied at Brooklyn Preparatory. He also attended George Washington University.
Awards
Some of his numerous awards were the Academy Award, the Golden Globe Award and the Saturn Award.
Trivia
At a stage in his career, he worked with the U.S. Information Agency.
In the 1950s, he worked with the University of Southern California as their publicity director.
