About William Pitt the Younger
In 1783, at just 24 years old, William Pitt the Younger became Great Britain’s Prime Minister. A member of the British Tory Party, he started serving as the first prime minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in January 1801 but ended his tenure just two months later. He returned to office in May 1804 and served until January 1806. He is remembered for having been an excellent administrator who championed reforms and efficiency.
Family Life
His father was William Pitt, 1st Earl of Chatham and his mother’s name was Hester Grenville. He had an elder brother. He was never married although he apparently almost married British politician Lord Auckland’s daughter, Eleanor Eden.
Death
He died from suspected peptic ulceration of his stomach on 23 January 1806 at 46 years old.
