About Wolfgang Borchert
Wolfgang Borchert’s service in Germany’s Wehrmacht was seen in a number of his works. Most of his writings were based on his experiences with the military group. Throughout his career, the German writer authored many poems, plays, and books.
He started as a poet but shot to fame with his play titled “The Man Outside (Draußen vor der Tür)” which was published in 1946. That same year, he published another book entitled “The Bread (Das Brot)”, which would become one of his most popular works.

His parents were Hertha Borchert, an author, and her husband Fritz Borchert, a teacher.

He cited Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke as his icon.
One of his most popular poems was titled “Lantern, Night and Stars (Laterne, Nacht und Sterne)”.
