Yann Martel is a Spanish-Canadian author known for his award-winning and bestselling novel Life of Pi, which sold millions of copies all over the world and was adapted into the 2012 Golden GlobeAward-winning film Life of Pi. His other popular novels include 1996's Self and 2010's Beatrice and Virgil.
Family Life
He was born to Émile Martel and Nicole Perron. He and British writer Alice Kuipers have four children together.
Awards
He won the 2002 Man Booker Prize for his novel Life of Pi. The book also won him several other major awards, including the Hugh MacLenna in 2001 and The Boeke Prize in 2003.
Trivia
Before finding success as a writer, he did a number of odd jobs, including that of a parking lot guide and a security guard.
Despite his mother tongue being French, he writes in English.
