About Yitzhak Rabin
Before Yitzhak Rabin became a known name in Israeli politics, he had dedicated 27 years of his life to a career as a military officer. During his time (1941 to 1967) in the military, he served in the Palmach and then the Israeli Defense Forces.
He was first appointed Israel’s Prime Minister in 1974 after his predecessor resigned. He himself resigned in 1977 because of a financial scandal. He served again after he was elected in 1992 as Prime Minister.
Family Life
He was the son of Rosa Cohen and Nehemiah Rabin. He married former newspaper reporter Leah Schlossberg in 1948. They had a son, Yuval, and a daughter, Dalia.
Achievements
He was honored with the War of Independence and Six-Day War ribbons.
Assassination
He was assassinated by Yigal Amir on November 4, 1995, when leaving a mass rally. Amir was a Palestinian extremist who was unhappy with the terms of the Oslo Accord, which Israel had signed with his country.
