Yolanda Saldívar is an American woman who gained worldwide notoriety for murdering the 23-year-old Latino singing sensation Selena in 1995. She was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life behind bars for the murder.
Family Life
She was the youngest of the seven children born to Juanita and Frank Saldívar. She never married but had three adopted children.
Trivia
She was the president of Selena's fan club and the manager of Selena’s clothing line Selena Etc., but was fired from both positions in 1995 after being accused of embezzling about $60, 000 from Selena’s accounts.
She shot and killed Serena on March 31, 1995 in a hotel room in Corpus Christi, Texas where the singer met with her to collect the financial papers of the fan club and her clothing line.
During her trial, she claimed the shooting wasn’t deliberate and that her gun accidentally went off and fatally wounded the singing sensation.
Prior to working with Selena, she worked as a nurse.
She was portrayed by actress Lupe Ontiveros in the 1997 biographical musical drama film Selenastarring Jennifer Lopez as Selena.
