About Yuto Nagatomo
Yuto Nagatomo is a professional soccer player from Japan. He plays as a defender. He started playing soccer at high school, through to the tertiary before launching his professional career in 2008 after signing for FC Tokyo.
He joined Cesena of the Italian Serie A in 2010. In 2011, he was loaned to Inter Milan. After spending 8 seasons with the latter club, Nagatomo moved to Galatasaray in 2018. Two years later, he joined Marseille FC.
Internationally, Nagatomo made his debut for Japan in 2008. He represented his nation at the 2010, 2014, and 2018 FIFA World Cup. He again represented Japan in 2011, 2015, and 2019 AFC Asian Cup as well as the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Education
He studied at Higashi Fukuoka High School, and Meiji University.
Family
He is the child of Rie Nagatomo. In 2017, he got married to Airi Taira. He has a sibling named Minoru Nagatomo.
Awards
He won the 2009 J.League Cup with FC Tokyo. In the 2010-2011 season, he won the Coppa Italia with Inter Milan. Again, at Galatasaray, he won two Süper Lig titles, one Türkiye Kupası trophy, and one Süper Kupa cup. He also won the 2011 AFC Asian Cup with Japan.
Individually, Nagatomo has won a few accolades including the 2013 AFC Asian International Player of the Year. He was also selected into the 2009 J.League Best XI team and the 2020 AFC Opta All-time World Cup XI team.
