About Yves Rocher
This French businessman started as a textile shopkeeper and became the king of botanical beauty care. Yves Rocher is the founder of a plant-based cosmetics line Yves Rocher.
Born in the village of La Gacilly, Morbihan, Yves Rocher had to grow up fast at the age of 14 after his father’s death. He helped his mother operate their small textile shop. This business-savvy young lad decided to sell hemostatic ointment after he was taught how to make it from the lesser celandine flower in 1959.

Yves Rocher launched the skin care, cosmetics, and perfume company in 1965. The company grew from a mail-order business into a multibillion Euros company with over 3,000 stores across 88 countries. He opened his first laboratory named Le Centre d'Etudes et de Recherche en Cosmétologie in 1965 and opened his retail shop in 1970.
Rocher retired from the company in 1992 but had to return to the helm after his son Didier died two years later. This impressive French man was elected mayor of La Gacilly from 1962 to 2008. He helped transform his small town into a commercial hub by building factories and laboratories.
Rocher died in 2009 after a stroke. The running of the company was handed over to his grandson, Bris Rocher who became the Vice President of the company in 2007.
