About Zane Grey
American author Zane Grey started writing as a part-time job to his profession as a dentist, despite developing a love for it at an early age. In 1903, he published his first novel which was entitled “Betty Zane”.
Known for his Western style, Grey published his best-selling book in 1912 which was named “Riders of the Purple Sage”. Between 1917 and 1926, his name appeared in the first ten top-sellers list on nine occasions. His 1927 novel “Forlorn River” was his other well-known book.
Films and television adaptation
His works have been reproduced into over 100 films. Some have also been used for television series with the most notable one being CBS’ “Dick Powell's Zane Grey Theatre”.
Family
His full name was Pearl Zane Grey and was one of the children of Lewis M. Gray and Alice "Allie" Josephine Zane. He grew up with four other siblings. His marriage to Lina Elise Roth produced three kids named Romer, Betty, and Loren.
Education
He was an alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania.
Recognitions
The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum added his name to their Hall of Great Westerners in 1977.
Trivia
He played baseball during his time in the university.
