He was a Serbian prime minister.
Background and Education
He was from Bosanski Samac,Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yugoslavia. He’s of Toplica descent on his father's side. His mother was Milan Dusanic. He went to Ninth Belgrade Gymnasium and from there, he gained admission to the University of Belgrade’s Faculty of Philosophy. He graduated in 1974. He went on to acquire a PhD in philosophy from the University of Konstanz.
Career
The former politician developed an interest in politics back in his university days. Before his political career, he taught for some time at the University of Novi Sad. He also wrote literary reviews for an influential Belgrade journal.
In 1989, he founded a political party called Democratic Party. The former party co-founder was elected to the Parliament of Serbia in 1990, after he became the Executive Board Chairman of the party. He was elected as president of the party in 1994.
He played an important role in the 2000 presidential elections of the Federal Republic and was appointed prime minister in 2001
Achievements
He was named by Times magazine as one of the most important politicians at the beginning of the 21st century.
He increased economic reforms during his period as a prime minister.
Death
He was assassinated in 2003. He was 50.
