About Alexi Lalas
Alexi Lalas is widely considered as one of the finest soccer talents to originate from the United States. Mostly used as a defender, Lalas became a global icon during the FIFA World Cup in 1994, thanks to his performance and long blonde hair and beard.
His performance caught the eyes of many teams but was signed by Italian club Calcio Padova in 1994. He went on to play for other teams before joining the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2001 where he would record most of his successes. With the team, he won the MLS Cup, Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, and the CONCACAF Champions' Cup.
Post retirement
After drawing the curtains down on his playing career, Lalas has worked at different positions for a number of teams, especially in the United States. Clubs such as New York Red Bulls, Los Angeles Galaxy, and the San Jose Earthquakes have all hired him as their general manager.
As a broadcaster, he has appeared on many television networks including Fox Sports where he’s used as an analyst.
As a musician
During his time at college, Lalas was a member of a musical group known as The Gypsies. He helped them to release an album in 1994 which was titled “Woodland”. He has also worked as a solo performer and has issued a number of albums with some labeled “Look at You” and “Infinity Spaces”.
Family
He spent his early years with his parents Anne Harding Woodworth and Demetrios Lalas. He’s the senior brother of soccer legend Greg Lalas.
Education
He started his education at Cranbrook Kingswood School and later joined Rutgers University where he was a regular member of their soccer team.
Honors
He was named Honda Player of the Year in 1995. Eleven years later, he was ushered into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
