Family
Bathgate wed Merle Bathgate in 1995 and they were married until he died in 2016. He fathered children – Bill Bathgate and Sandra Lynn.
Career Highlights
He played ten seasons with the New York Rangers (1954 – 1955) before moving to play with the Toronto Maple Leafs for two seasons (1963 – 1964 and 1964 – 65). He played the next two seasons with the Detroit Red Wings and spent the 1966 – 67 and 1967 – 68 seasons, playing for the Pittsburg Hornets and Pittsburgh Penguins, respectively.
After playing the next two seasons for the Vancouver Canucks, he returned to the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 1970 – 71 season.
He coached the Vancouver Blazers from 1973 – 1974.
Honors
He became a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1978 and was named to the National Hockey League First All-Star Team in 1959 and 1963.
Bathgate was named the “Most Valuable Player” of the National Hockey League and the Western Hockey League.
