About Anthony van Dyck
Having stood out as a talented painter as early as his pre-teen years, Flemish Baroque painter Anthony van Dyck was just a teenager when he established himself as an independent artist. A student of Peter Paul Rubens and Hendrick van Balen, both of whom were influential Flemish Baroque painters, he became a household name in Italy and the Southern Netherlands before making his way to England. In England, he garnered a reputation as a prominent court painter, mainly creating portraits for Charles I and his family.
Family Life
He was the son of a rich silk merchant, Frans van Dyck and Maria Cupers. He was married to Mary Ruthven. They had one daughter together.
Death
He died on December 9, 1641 following a long illness.
