About Antonio Meucci
Antonio Meucci was a famous Italian inventor who was considered by some historians as the originator of the telephone. He made history in 1856 when he came up with a voice-communication tool which connected his laboratory to one of his bedrooms.
In 1871, he submitted a caveat to the United States Patent Office, but failed to mention that his invention transferred vocal sound through electromagnetic transmission. He was also one of the founders of the Telettrofono Company.
Personal Life
He was the son of Domenica Pepi and Amatis Meucci. In 1834, he became the husband of Esterre Mochi, who worked as a costume designer.
Education
Meucci read mechanical and chemical engineering at Florence Academy of Fine Arts.
Facts
In 2008, as part of his 200th anniversary, the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities gave him the title “Inventor of the telephone”.
He was the subject of Enrico Guazzoni’s 1940 film of the same name.
